Branding
Branding is not a logo. It is the reason someone picks you over the business next to you when both look broadly capable and neither is the cheapest.
What this actually is
Working out what you are actually selling, who it is for, and why they should choose you — then making everything look and sound like that consistently.
The useful output is not a fifty-page brand book nobody opens. It is a clear position, a look that can be applied to a website, an ad and an invoice without falling apart, and words you can actually say out loud to a customer.
What's included
- Positioning: what you do, who for, and what makes choosing you the easy decision
- Visual identity: logo, colours and type that work at every size, including tiny
- Messaging: the sentences you use to describe the business, tested for plain English
- Creative direction that carries across the website, ads and social
- Practical files, in the formats you will actually be asked for
Where branding usually goes wrong
It gets treated as decoration, done once, and never used. A brand that only exists in a document is a cost, not an asset.
Or it says nothing. "Quality service, competitive prices, customer focused" describes every competitor you have and gives nobody a reason to call you. Specific beats impressive.
The version that pays for itself is the boring one: consistent, applied everywhere, and clear enough that a stranger understands what you do in a few seconds.
How it is scoped
Branding is quoted as a project, sized to what you need. A business that needs a logo and a coherent look is a different job from one repositioning itself entirely.
It is often done alongside a website build, because the two decisions feed each other — and doing them separately usually means paying to redo half of one.
Common questions
I already have a logo. Do I need this?
Possibly not. If your logo works and people understand what you do, the money is better spent elsewhere. That is a straight answer you will get before any work is quoted.
Will I own the files?
Yes, entirely. The source files are handed over so you are never dependent on anyone to make a sign, a shirt or an ad.
Can this be done without a new website?
Yes, though they tend to work better together. If the site stays as it is, the brand work is built to fit what already exists rather than fighting it.
Want to know if this is worth doing?
Tell us what is happening in your business and you will get a straight answer about whether this would help — including if the answer is no. Nothing to pay for the conversation.
